AFL-CIO of Massachusetts endorses Mike Capuano for re-election

Labor leaders share support for Congressman Capuano

BOSTON — Wednesday, June 13, 2018 — Citing U.S. Rep. Michael E. Capuano’s dedication to creating more opportunities for all, the Massachusetts AFL-CIO today endorsed Rep. Capuano for re-election.

“As a committed champion for the values and principles of the labor movement, Mike has proven time and time again he puts working people first, and will continue to fight for working families in our neighborhoods, and in Washington,” said Massachusetts AFL-CIO president Steven Tolman. “We need a fighter like Mike in Washington to stand up for our workers and our families, and the AFL-CIO of Massachusetts will support Mike every step of the way.”

“Organized labor helped build our country and our middle class — and Republicans want to tear these accomplishments down,” said Rep. Capuano. “I’m committed to making sure workers in every field get fair wages, fair working working conditions, and a fair and equal opportunity to provide for themselves and their families. The Massachusetts AFL-CIO and I have fought together to level the playing field for everyone, and I couldn’t be more proud to receive their support today.”

Rep. Capuano has advocated for worker and union rights, and is an outspoken supporter of the right to organize, implicit in the Bill of Rights and explicitly recognized in U.S. law since the Wagner Act. He has consistently urged employers to respect efforts to organize, and to bargain in good faith. Rep. Capuano has written letters supporting workers’ rights, and has walked picket lines.

Rep. Capuano has been endorsed for re-election by an array of labor organizations, progressive champions, and leading elected officials such as Boston Mayor Martin J. Walsh, former Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick, the Massachusetts Nurses Association, the National Education Association, the Massachusetts Teachers Association, and the Bay State Stonewall Democrats.

About the Massachusetts AFL-CIO
The role of the Massachusetts AFL-CIO is to serve as the unified voice of all organized workers in the Commonwealth and to be a voice for all working people, those in unions and those not yet organized. Our mission is to improve the lives of working families—by working for economic, social and racial justice in the workplace, in our communities, our state and in our nation. Our vision is of a fair and just society that benefits all working people, not a system that’s rigged in favor of the wealthy few.
